The Social and Dramatic Union of Jai Hind College is a premier committee that has never shied away from broadening its horizons and constantly growing by leaps and bounds. We have always aimed at being at the pinnacle of our representation, the best at everything we take on. Our legacy of cultural talent has grown magnanimously over the years, with more and more names of outstanding repute being added to our success stories each year. With its seamless blend of competitive bout and incessant exuberance, the SDU’s brainchild, our fest, SHOUTT [Show Us The Talent] provides an opportunity for budding artists to show their mettle. This year too, we worked tirelessly to bring together a series of events and pre-events that completely encompass the entire substance of who we are and what we stand for.
Our intercollegiate fest, based in Mumbai, went pan-India this year; a move that drove us to touch new heights and level up like never before. Beginning on the 2nd of December 2021, SHOUTT saw footfall from students coming from places like Chennai, Bhopal etc. Their presence was the added flourish to the charm of our ever-entertaining fest. Going pan India also helped us make our initiative, #shouttforchange lay its foundations in cities outside of Mumbai. Change is part of all our existence and we strive to make that change as positive and inclusive as possible. With #shouttforchange, where we make it a point to communicate and spread much needed awareness about social issues and concerns. We believe in bringing to light all the malpractices and events that take place behind closed doors. We want to be part of the process, the journey towards a better world for all of us and we are actively working towards that goal. Our initiatives revolve around breaking the fear of judgement, crushing gender stereotypes, spreading body positivity, and learning to use valuable time better. Apart from this SHOUTT also collaborated with a special partner called ‘Teach For India’. They will be conducting workshops at our college soon.
One more monumental change we made this year, was the introduction of a new department, namely Business Accumen. This department catered to the interests of those who enjoy delving into the nitty-gritties of business, stocks, crypto etc.
The Social and Dramatic Union has a marketing department which is solely dedicated for on-boarding sponsors and collaborators and help us take SHOUTT out to the world. We get in touch with contacts from JHC students and that’s how we find people to sponsor our wonderful fest SHOUTT. I would also like to highlight here that a lot of companies we collaborated with were born during the COVID-19 pandemic and hence it gave us immense pleasure to promote them at our fest and help their businesses boom. It is also notable that the SHOUTT team successfully delivered to 30+ sponsors that we had onboard. We thank them from the bottom of our heart for their unwavering support!
Talking more about the festival itself, we were honoured to have some of the most renowned names as judges and pre-event invitees. Just to mention a few, Rohit Roy, Rinzing Denzongpa, Sunny Deol and Jackie Shroff. A huge thanks to them for letting people know about our fest and gracing us with their presence. We also had India’s best JAM master Hormuz Ragina as the JAM master for the event and it says without going that JAM turned out to be a massive success for us. The top three podium trophies given away at the end of our fest, on the 4th of December, were a sight to behold as they were a whopping 6’4, 5’6 and 4’11 in height respectively, culminating the fest on a high note!
